"I picked up a copy of Minimalist Parenting form the public library.  It is a book that just came out in March and will provide interesting fodder for a conversation amongst parents.  I have a few folks already signed up and I limit the group to 15 so that it can still be a conversation.  Come enjoy an evening out with some wine, wonderful snacks great conversation and an opportunity to connect with folks in the Salmon Bay Community."

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 7-9 PM DRUG & ALCOHOL TALK

Please join us for this important discussion...

** presentation on the findings of the latest Student Health Survey
** tips on guiding your teen around drug and alcohol influences

Every two years, the state conducts a survey among 8^th, 10^th and 12^th grade students that assesses health and risk behaviors. Lisa Sharp from the Seattle School district will present an analysis of the newest data, including interesting information on kids’ attitudes towards marijuana and alcohol use.   A brief video from the head of adolescent medicine at Children's hospital will outline the role of parents and family members in preventing drug abuse.  Afterwards Caleb Banta-Green, of UW's Alcohol & Drug Abuse Institute, will lead a discussion about what each of us can do to help our children make healthy decisions now and in the future about alcohol, medication and drug use.

The talk is appropriate for parents of kindergartners all the way through middle school.
